  Hello everyone ! Magui once again hijacking this Counter Slash guide since the last person who start it didn't continue.

In this topic, I'll be talking Guillotine Cross (GX) and especially the RTENOTITLE Counter Slash (CS) one. To be able to use Counter Slash, you have to proc RTENOTITLE Weapon Blocking first by getting hit but then return the favor 10² fold times in the enemy's face. This type of GX is very fun to play, you'll be able to deal tremendous damage while laughing at there death bodies because they can't kill you (at least can't one shot) because of our good HP pool, buff (especially RTENOTITLE Hallucination Walk) and our good HP leech (through Oni Horn item and for some the Metal Dragon pet).

Overview

  • GX is a very fun class to play, it has a lot of various options such as Dual Dagger Crit / Cross Impact (CI) / Cross Ripper Slasher (CRS) GX and our Counter Slash. With the Counter Slash build, you can merge it with a CRS one by switching headgear and hit monsters who are using Reflect Shield.
  • Since you'll have to proc Weapon Blocking to be able to use CS, you'll have to get the aggro of monsters and so, you'll probably receive damage.
  • You can combine the CS build with a bit of Neutral Reduction and be able to tank a lot of them without dying and get your HP back with our good leeching power
    • Note : in some instances or against certain monsters, it'll be necessary to have a decent tanking against them, otherwise by being one shot you can't proc weapon blocking, check out my AB guide to see the recommended item for the neutral redux build.
  • We have very strong buff (Hallucination Walk, Enchant Deadly Poison aka EDP, Enchant Poison combined to Venom Pressure). EDP is just an incredible increase of your damage and Enchant Poison only allows you to endow your weapon with poison property but ! If you use it with Venom Pressure, you can reduce the Poison resistance of a monster by 50% and so turn his neutrality to Poison into a weakness and maybe make the Poison element the best element to use ! (example : Celine Kimi MVP).
  • GX will receive a new skill rework in the future where Dark Claw can remove the Reflect of the target ; CRS can be spammed several times and not only once so it makes a good point for us to combine CS to CRS and Cross Impact will get a buff too (well not that important for us but it can be very interesting).
    • EDIT : CS is completely out damaged by the new Cross Impact, Soul Destroyer so you can change build now /heh
  • WARNING : "For weapons suggestion, it's better to use Dual Daggers or a One Handed Sword+Dagger if you don't have the combo JDR+Dog Tag. Otherwise I won't recommend any other katar except JDR if you want to do damage" that's what I used to say before.
    • Through my test here's my conclusion. Everything was done with the same refines on every weapons and cards :
      • JDR > Any Dual Daggers in general (either Glory + Ruin / Dual Crimson etc..)
      • JDR > Red Twin Edge of Naght Sieger + Any Dagger (same as above)
      • JDR < Saber of Vicious Mind + Any Dagger (since i did my test on the test server, the VM weapon was unenchanted too)
    • So in the end, get the JDR even if you don't have the Dog Tag. Maybe it doesn't beat Saber of VM + Dagger but well, it's cheaper and almost as strong as the two weapons.

Pros & Cons

Pros :

  • It is a decent build to start for a beginner i believe.
  • It has a very huge high burst damage potential especially once you get the combo of equipments required (add up Dark Claw debuff on the monster and just see him suffer in atrocious pain).
  • The CS build requires a specific headgear : Oni Horns [1], those will give you a very good leeching HP without having a Hunter Fly card which save a card slot. Also we have a good basic HP pool.
  • Able to solo every MVP (except those with Reflect Shield /desp).
  • High mobility with Back Slide so you can Back Slide -> CS -> redo.
  • You can use a Dagger+Shield for more survivability and still do high damage.

Cons :

  • Can't hit monsters with high flee unless you use multiple Phreeoni card but that's useless.
  • By using Oni Horn, you'll permanently auto-cast Pulse Strike before hitting with Counter Slash, this skill looks like Meteor Assault effect and it'll knockback every monsters around. Against little monsters it can be a bit annoying to kill them all cause the damage of Pulse Strike is really really low (This thing won't be a problem against MVP cause all of them cannot be knockback).
  • Sometimes to activate Weapon Blocking, it can takes several seconds or even a minute until you can fight back which is extremely annoying. During that time you might die or just the monster will die because of your team mate.
  • If you go full damage which means you don't have any tank gears on you, you'll definitely 100% die before procing Weapon Blocking unless you got a lucky proc on first hit and one shot the monster.

 

Stats & Skills

Stats

  • STR - I wonder if there's any need to explain why you need to increase that stat, put it at 120 if you use STR Boots, but even without those, you can let it at 120.
  • AGI - If you read CS's skill description, CS depends on the user's AGI too, so put it to 120 too.
  • VIT - For survivability, I would recommend to get at least enough VIT for the stun immunity for the beginning.
  • INT - Completely useless imo, it's already difficult to repart stats with all the other 5. With level 200, you can allow yourself to get INT now even when you have to flex stats for Mob Set.
  • DEX - Get enough DEX to be able to hit most monsters.
  • LUK - 3 points in luk = 1 ATK, it can save some stat points instead of putting 1 point in STR when you already have over 100 base STR.

Stats advices at level 200 :

Note 1 : I'm having 3 stats at 120 because of Mob Scarf to maximize the effect and 120 AGI like I explained before.

Note 2 : A more realistic stats for newbies or people who don't have Mob Scarf yet would be : 120 / 120 / 90 / as much as you want / 90+ / base luk of 1 + a multiple of 3.

Note : In the SinX skill tree, you can either get Soul Destroyer level 10 if you want to do some long range damage if the monster got reflect or so or get Poison React level 10 to maximize the effect of Enforcer's Shoes and have a lot of damage on Meteor Assault.

Note : If you're not planning to play hybrid CS+CRS -> remove skill points in Rolling Cutter and CRS and put in Poisoning Weapon (get it level 5) so you can use Magic Mushroom to get a bit of acd.

NEW : With the recent patch, we're getting 5 extra skill points. You can get a higher level of Research New Poison so your EDP will last longer which would be the most profitable option imo.

Most very used and essential cards for CS GX are MVP cards. It'll be a long way until you can get them so to try to maximize your dps, better try to avoid being affected by those status effect and keep spamming your skill.

It is a Violent Coelacanth-like card but instead of being Weapon ATK, it is pure ATK which can be actually better than the V.Coelacanth. The combo also nullify the bad effect of Gold Acidus which is not that bad.

Nightmarish Jitterbug Reduces physical and magical damage taken from Neutral elemental monsters by 10%.

When combined with Playing Pere Card and Singing Pere Card:
Randomly transforms user into Awaken Pere for 6 seconds when dealing physical or magical attack.
During transformation:
Restores HP by 2000
Increases physical and magical damage inflicted on Neutral elemental monsters by 200%.

This card will skyrocket your damage when you transformed against Neutral monsters. Like you might easily gain 500k+ damage with that.

If stack with another Kiel-D-01, it says that it will enable a curse!
Increase skill's after-cast delay by 100%.

To be able to spam CS, you'll need a lot of after cast to make it a decent spam.With only a Kiel card alone, it'll looks like a ~175 ASPD player if you use Dual Daggers. Getting after cast is a must for CS build.

Grim Reaper Ankou Card

Bio's Island When receiving physical or magical damage, has a chance to Curse all enemies in 17x17 cells around the user, Weapon ATK Rate +25% and MATK +25% for 10 seconds.
The probability increases by 1% per headgear refine rate.
Transforms into Grim Reaper Ankou for 5 seconds when using First Aid.

It's kinda working the same way as Violent Coelacanth, with a high refine headgear, you'll get a huge bonus of Weapon ATK (in this case tho, it's when you're being under attack and not permanently having the bonus) but the bonus given is way bigger than Violent Card one.

Sealed Kiel D-01 Card

Robot Factory 2 After cast delay reduced by 15%.
If this card is compounded into a headgear refined to +15: Reduces after-cast delay by 5% more.

The good thing about this card is that it can be used with a normal Kiel card too, you won't have that bad side effect of having 2 Kiel card since this one is the Sealed version. It gives a decent amount of after cast but well, it's ok to not have that extra 5% I think.

Sigrun's Wings is a very good mid headgear to start with. It is also a very good all around headgear which is also very useful for newbies !

Through my test of the Royal Guard combo, the damage is almost like Mob Scarf but still weaker (difference of 300k with full high end game gears). Also by using that combo, you need to put Kiel in the top headgear and remove a potential  Weapon ATK card such as Violent Coelacanth and Grim Reaper Ankou, so it would be even more weaker then what I mentionned. But well, it is definitely possible to use it if you don't have Mob Scarf combo, that would be the 2nd best combo headgear to use.

So here is the famous Mob Scarf item that almost every end game class use. It's kinda tricky to have the maximum effect of the combo stats you want (I'm sacrifying a lot of my VIT to get that 120 LUK) and since it combo with a slotted mid headgear, it's very good to have it.

The Nab's Combo gives a boost equal to a Cursed Magic Mail.. But only of the armor alone. This is not enough to be able to replace shoes/garment etc... Still it's good to use I believe.

Sometimes, you'll need neutral reduction to be able to tank certain MVP or monsters. Combine a Tidung/Boitata or Cursed Mail to get a bit of neutral redux combined to an Immune Manteau to get 100% reduction so you'll survive.

Like mentionned before, Boitata Armor is an other alternative to get a bit of neutral reduction. It also gives a little bit of MaxHP% which is not bad.

The excellion set is pretty good to start since it gives a good 20% of after cast delay. Also you can enchant it with various enchants. Try to aim for STR/ATK/ATK if you want full damage or get the Unfrozen/DEF one if you want.

The Hidden's Armor bonus is actually pretty easy to proc. Once you see a sort of white halo around you it means you are under the effect which makes that armor equal to a Cursed Mail without the Indestructible effect.

An other armor to achieve 100% neutral reduction. It gives a good amount of Weapon ATK and the fact of being indestructible at +7 which is very easily to achieve nowadays makes the cursed mail the first highly recommended item I recommend.

The YSF armor gives an enormous boost of damage by itself. But to be able to refine it to +13 isn't that easy even with +9 ticket since in the end it still depends on RNG to refine (except with you use safe ore). A bonus of 27% iirc weapon ATK at +16 but you'll be to be a bit tricky on your stats when you use it since it requires 125 STR and just those little 5 point stats over 120 is eating SO MUCH stat points. The combo with the manteau one is useful to get a bit of after cast just like Excellion set. I wouldn't recommende to use the boots since it only gives after attack delay which is ASPD.

This armor combo's with the temporal STR boots which is a good thing, giving a good 10% ATK. With only those and refines, it still won't beat the Einherjar combo I believe but ! soon we'll be able to enchant the manteau and armor so it'll need some test to check how good it is.

After test : Quite good to use, with enchants you can either get atk +3% double or acd 5% double if you lack acd or want more atk.

Latest armor that got release and it is just one of the best armor of the game without being very hard to get. It is more about the enchants that is heavily RNG. Put 2 Power Module and 1 ACD Module for a total bonus of : atk+10%, atk+240, 15% acd at +9 which is enormous.

Elemental Cards Armor are very good to use to be able to survive a monster. You'll easily reduce the damage taken usually to half and hope to leech HP while spamming CS to kill the monster. This is just the best offensive card of the whole game. The combo with VR card gives you a total of 50% ATK. The fact of being ATK% and not WATK% makes it even more stronger than anything (melee class in eq and buffs usually attain a high value of atk).

Tips

  • Always use multiple armors to have differents cards (Elemental cards especially and the Living Dead one cause some monsters like the alchemist in Geffen Magic Tournament can cast Demonstration and it's just a pain in the ass).
  • Even if your main armor is for example the Einherjar one and you need to switch to an other elemental card to tank, it's ok to not use your strongest armor.
  • If you're really desperate, you can use a   Cotton Shirt [1] to get more elemental cards. Still I would tend to just change the actual Elemental Card in my actual armor instead of using a Cotton Shirt (you know.. it's a Cotton Shirt lol).
  • If you use an Elemental Card inside an  Elemental Armor, only the card will work.

Thanatos Card is a must have for any physical class. But if you got Perverse Demon Mask, you can remove this card otherwise it's a must have.

Tips

  • You must have a katar weapon and a weapon+shield on yourself, you'll definitely face monsters that will make you change between those two if you can't one shot everything or so.
  • If you change weapons while EDP is active, it'll instantly go off and you'll have to re-use it. It also do that when you want to use Shield Spell (which is the next tip also). Same goes for Enchant Poison.
  • Dark Claw works only for melee damage. It's useless to use Dark Claw on a monster and use CRS after. You won't deal higher damage.
  • If you ever want to try Cross Impact, you'll need to do side steps between each CI and spam it again and again which can be quite difficult (won't talk too much about that since it's kinda out of the topic)
  • If you switch from Katar to Dagger+Shield, ALWAYS PUT THE SHIELD FIRST, if you put the Dagger first, it'll go in the Shield slot since you are also a dual wieilder class.
  • If you have leech HP/SP card or gears, the best way to get your HP/SP back is by using Rolling Cutter.

Tips

  • So, this little tip rubric will be about how to use Shield Spell. Firstly you have to know that every skill level of Shield Spell got 3 differents effects so it's like having 9 differents Shield Spell.
  • Since Royal Guard Shield only gives Shield Spell Lv1, it's like having a "Shield Spell Lv3"
  • One of the effect of Shield Spell Lv1 is to boost your ATK depending on your Shield's base DEF. If you have a shield with 150 base DEF, then you'll have an increase of ATK of 150.
  • When you're casting Shield Spell, instantly switch to your highest base DEF Shield (cause Royal Guard one only got a base DEF of 30) and always check your Alt + A to see if you got the right bonus.
  • Sometimes you might have a cast too fast (doubt so for GX but it's an advice for other class since Shield Spell can be used for a ranger too for example), just remove all of your eq and use Shield Spell.

When equipped with Bone Ferus Card, increases physical damage against brute race enemies by additional 5%.

Alone it is better than Ferus one. 10% against brute races is a noticeable effect i believe.

Example gear

Note 1 : Don't mind any of the cards showned and refines too in all of those gear set-up. I was only taking screens from Test Server. I'll describe everything under each equipement.

Note 2 : Always refine your items to at least the safe limit. I'll also details the refines too in those messy equipments.

Beginner Set :

GX Starter pack : Rideword Hat for HP/SP leech, dual crimson dagger with whatever enchants, easy low/mid headgear from NPC etc... From this, your first objective will be the Oni Horn for the next step.

Try to get also White Knight card for daggers, Buffalo combo in both accessories and a Brown Rat or Wakwak card would be nice to have too. For now just safe refine everything, or maybe try to get +7 both daggers but you'll want to change them pretty fast.

Low Cost / Starting of Medium Cost :

Oni Horn obtained ! Now it's important to get more damage by changing some specific gear (garment and armor here). The combo with garment and boots is very good and the Heroic Hidden Clothes gives you an ATK+10% when it procs (proc who's pretty good). Now next step would be to get the first very important card for melee chara which is Thanatos Card. It is pretty much buyable for a newbie by farming quite a time at Thanatos Tower since MVP cards price's reduced by a lot.

Keep using WK Card, add up Thanatos in that VM Saber, Brown Rat in the garment and an EOE STR in the headgear. Enchant the boots with FS too. As for refine, you can start to make a good refine on Oni Horn (+7 around or even +9 if you can) / +7 both boots and manteau to get some decent bonus and both weapons to +7 or above for nice damage.

Medium Cost / Starting of High Cost :

The following step from this point is to get the JDR aka best weapon for any type of GX. Keep farming Sky Fortress to eventually get one (or a good Saber of VM if you can't get JDR yet). I'm using the Tengu Set but it's very not obligated. You can still stick to Spiked Scarf and Sigrun's Wings. You can see, I have the Enforcer Shoes now, our first Gladiator item (guess what's the second one) to obtain Maximize Power skill and a very good aoe with Meteor Assault or just a lot of WeaponATK%. I also changed the armor for a CMM but that's not obligated like the Tengu Set too.

As for cards, you can keep the EOE STR in hat / an elemental card in armor or get the Living Dead or Miner Pitman / Thana and Corrupted Wanderer or White Knight in weapon / Brown Rat in garment and still both Buffalos. Enforcer's gives you some very good bonus with refines, but I would suggest just to get the first one for now, even later actually. You necessary need +9 Oni Horn at this stage and a high refined JDR (try to get at least +10).

High End Cost :

Now some very major changes. Dog Tag to combo with JDR to skyrocket your damage / Blacksmith's Gloves for ACD / Mob combo to skyrocket damage too. You'll be very impress by how much your damage will change with just one change in accessory.

A Kiel Card is very recommended to get now to be able to spam CS. I'm also using Chaotic Acolyte and Dark Faceworm to get even more ACD. Refines also remain the same like before except the JDR, if you can refine it to +16 that would be great. You can change the card in headgear for a Violent Coelacanth and start high refining your Oni Horn (or if you want Grim Reaper instead, not necessary to high refined it).

Very High End Cost :

So now, this is just the god like build for CS I believe ? Einherjar combo is so good to use, especially with a high refined Cloack of Casualty (you can get a sort of High - Very High Tier Stage by starting to get Einherjar with a low refined Cloack of Casualty and +8 Applause around). Applause will give you 32% ACD at +16, add some job stones like the RK one and you're at a total of 94% ACD with Kiel + Blacksmith + Dark Faceworm + Chaotic Acolyte + Applause + RK Stones. With this build, you can get around 12m CS on Celine Kimi without Dark Claw or likely one shot Amdarais maybe not sure tho /heh.

Cards in the order top to bottom : Grim Reaper Ankou / Kiel / Chaotic Baphomet or use R.Amdarais / Brown Rat / Amon Ra / Dark Faceworm and Chaotic Acolyte.

 

CS Showcase

Said coming soon, but i'm having a lot of trouble to make a decent one, cause of the time to proc weapon block / time to kill MVP and by doing all of those, the wiki can't bear the weight of my folder lol. That is pretty annoying that it can't bear a big one but well, I can just say that every CS i do deal 10% to Celine Kimi with GX buffs + Dark Claw to give a total of 7.8m. My gear is around the High End - Very High End, tested with the Very High one on test server and I can easily spam EXTREMELLY FAST 12.8m damage on Kimi.

Shadow Gears

Well, there's nothing much to say about that. The usual shadow gears for any class are the job one (guillotine / assassin / thief shadow gears) all obtainable from BG.

If you want to go for shadows in those mysterious bundle scroll, try to get Reload one and Infinity one but I doubt most players can get those except if you have a credit card haha.

The Katar Shadow Set is mostly designed for Crit type GX such as the Cross Impact one. But those effects against all size monsters is definitely a notable effect to use it for a CS GX. You can even combine the Katar Set with the Reload Set since they are both filling up each other.
