I. Introduction

Spoiler

Hi I’m Raffy and my in-game name is Zohan (among other spy char alternates ^_^), I’ve been playing Ragnarok Online for quite sometime now from P2P,F2P, and now here in LimitRO Server which I have settled for the past few years. During these times I have been primarily engaged on ranged fighting chars, from being a Hunter, to Sniper (Transcendent Class), and finally a Ranger (Renewal). I made this guide so I may be able to help out and share to new and old players alike my personal opinion on what I consider are good things to know about being a Ranger in the game. In this guide I’ll try my best to share some information, knowledge, and wisdom from online articles, in-game player inputs from mentors, friends, and fellow enthusiasts.

Here are the 2 most popular builds for an Acher Class Character in Ragnarok Online:

1985775336_ASBuildDiv1.JPG.c355322fea5ea448a332aa431591859b.JPG

  •  Arrow Storm Ranger Build: This Ranger build is awesome for MVP Hunting (Solo-mode and or in a Party), PVE (Player VS Environment), Instance Quests, Farming, etc. (yeah basically everything, it’s the most versatile Ranger Build Type)

As of the current update, the best gear combo so far for an Arrow Storm Build Ranger is still the Mora Village Ranger Gear White Wing Set - 15042.pngWhite Wing Suit [1]2580.pngWhite Wing Manteau2479.pngWhite Wing Boots [1]2890.pngWhite Wing Brooch), the Bio Lab Gear – (18110.pngBig CrossBow [2]), and the Commodo Festival Gear Quest Reward for a Ranger char – ( 5898.pngAutumn Headband [1]).

1324446565_WWSETScopy.JPG.b331ef7a450729dfba3c140a4c8cf918.JPG

This build focuses on the massive Arrow Storm (AS) skill damage complemented with a good hitlocking ability to boot. I’m not going to discuss further the Pure Arrow Storm Build that has an AGI Stat of 1 as I have found that having a Ranger with that kind of build is quite impractical especially if you are going up against an MVP Solo, perhaps that would work in a party where your sole purpose is to be the grand slam nuker.

That being said, if your just starting here at LimitRO I would to suggest that your first character to be a Ranger. Why you say, take it from me [Zohan Special Tips!] - it is simply one of the best starting char for a beginner, a ranger can easily farm stuffs and it’s pretty easy to level solo or in a party.

A ranger even with pretty basic gears can handle most PVE challenges out there; the Arrow Storm skill is awesome for crowd control (killing monsters by the numbers). It also has high attack speed, high flee, and a warg mount to move quickly in search of your prey. With a good starting base you can progress to other chars or you can continue on this path and maximize it to its full potential.

For beginners I would suggest that you start with a Basic NPC Farming Ranger Build and work your way up to an Intermediate Level Ranger Build - and finally reaching the End-Game Arrow Storm MVP Ranger Build.

1473580324_AWCDiv1.JPG.064e1c24bf7ade8d17cdb3ee2815d6cc.JPG

  • Auto-Warg Crit Ranger Build: With the introduction of new contents for Ragnarok Online, players faced more formidable and challenging quests and instances. With these news additions come new monsters, tougher versions of previous MVPs, and even stronger new MVPs. The Auto Warg Crit (AWC) Build Ranger is the most suitable build that is up for the task. An End-game level build Auto Warg Crit Ranger can out damage an End-game build Arrow Storm Ranger or an Aim-Bolt Ranger on MVPs with HPs greater than 10 Million, AWC type is the most effective ranger build against these supped-up monsters.

 AWC Build Ranger Strengths:

       · High Critical Damage

       · Auto Warg Strike Attack

       · Maxed-out Aspd of 193 (7 hits per second)

All of these attributes gives out massive DPS (Damage Per Second)

This ranger build is a good complement to the 18984.pngOld Camouflage Rabbit Hood [1] which boosts Warg Strike Damage among others as refine rate increases.

As of the current update gear set given above is my suggested set for the AWC Build Ranger.

 2113111452_WWSETSAWCRanger.JPG.8fe3ee5d132e0e96c162d160af1f7e4f.JPG

You can also go for a pure Crit damage type AWC Ranger with the use 18856.pngWhite Drooping Eddga, 18934.pngKitsune Ear Bell Ribbon [1]19111.pngLaser of Eagle [1].  As you can see this build which is greatly specialized on killing a monster by hitlocking on them. With critical damage popping from almost every hit done to the target an AWC/Crit Ranger can lash out massive DPS on its prey. Add to this the new Client mechanics on Fear Breeze damage which is now calculated in for critical attack. Headgear choice is quite versatile and is an open option based on your playing style. (See more on suggested gear options under Section IV. Gears List: Equipment Sets and Cards)

However, I would only suggest this build for established players, it’s an expensive type of ranger to build-up. But this is an exciting build to play with as more new content is added to LimitRO the possible gear and card combinations are abound.

Getting the new game sprite for Ranger can be done by acquiring a Deluxe Ticket (Can be obtained using Event Points and exchange to the Events Genie NPC at Asgard. Or you can buy it from other players.) Proceed to the New Costume NPC located near the Events corner in Asgard.

Notes on STAT Build: Arrow Storm Build Ranger

         a. STAT distribution given above are just for reference only, you can add and deduct accordingly depending on your specific play style and use of consumables, donation gear setup, character buffs, and gear enchantments among others.

          b. DEX and INT Stat needs to be quite high in order to reach an acceptable cast time for AS, if you can't reach it. I suggest that you use the Accessory Sound Amplifier [1] to help you reach it. Insta-Cast State Value = 530 (check my previous special notes above)

         c. STR Stat needs to be always divisible by 5 to get +1 s.Atk.

         d. LUK Stat needs to be always divisible by 3 to get +1 s.Atk and Crit.

         e. If you want to go Pure AS Build then just get AGI Stat to 20 (at least to help in animation delay) and VIT Stat to 1, max out both DEX and LUK Stat and get a mid-level Stat Point to STR Stat.

[Zohan Special Tips!]: Additional Information on Attack and Insta-cast

Status Atk and Weapon Atk Formulas: For ranged Chars

 StatusAtk (Ranged) = Floor (Base Level/4) + (DEX Stat) + (STR Stat / 5) + (LUK Stat /3)

 WeaponATK = (BaseWeaponATK + Variance + DEXBonus + RefinementBonus) x Size Penalty

Variance

=  +/- ( 0.05  x  WeaponLevel  x  BaseWeaponATK)

DEXBonus (Bows)

=  BaseWeaponATK x DEX / 200

RefinementBonus

=  See Refinement Effects (LimitRO Wiki)

SizePenalty (Bows)

=  75% Large Size Monsters                =  100% Small & Medium Size Monsters

      - A good concept to reference your Total Damage is that %ATK+ or %Damage enchantments would always be better when you have End-game level gear with maxed-out refine levels VS simple ATK+ enchantments.

Insta-cast formula for getting that insta-cast Arrow Storm skill (Not quite applicable anymore if you are wearing Autumn Headband)

Insta-cast State = [ (Total DEX Stat X 2) + (Total INT Stat)]

Insta-Cast State Value = 530 (formula output should reach this value to get Insta-cast)

[Zohan’s Special Tips!]: Here are 3 Ranger Buffs Sequence that I use. I usually cast the skills with longer effect duration first then down to the shortest. I do this so that I just have to recast the short duration ranger buffs twice so that by the time the longer duration buffs would wear off, all ranger buffs would wear off almost at the same time. This timing is good before going in for the kill.

While Hitlock Attacking, watch the cooldowns for Arrow Storm and Warg Bite if the skills are available Cast them alternately. Check from time to time your Ranger Buffs and recast them accordingly.

A precaution on the use of Warg Bite Skill, never use the skill against an MVP when hunting them in their respective dungeons or fields. Casting an offensive skill such as  Warg Bite on them is regarded as a rouge skill attack and they would teleport away from their current location.

Equipment / Gears and Cards List: Arrow Storm Ranger Build

I’ll just be listing items which I in my opinion you could just concentrate on. There are a lot of possible gears that can be equipped by a Ranger, to make it simple I’ll just list the important ones (based on my opinion). As you progress you can follow my recommendations or should there be new gears that would be introduced and you feel that they would be better then that’s also ok, you can send me pm and suggest it accordingly so I may include it on this guide. Higher Tier number indicates a better option with Tier 3 being the best option to consider.

Arrow Storm Build Ranger Gear Highlights:

For now I’ll be heavily suggesting the White Wing Set, Big Crossbow [2], and the Autumn Headband [1] as this is the best gear to have for this particular Ranger build so far as of current server update September 2018.

Sample Gear/Equipment Setup

- On my enumerations below I have included a short description of the gears and cards as they are presented in the gears list. The following items mentioned are based on my opinion on what is the best gear combination on a specific build. You can freely mix and match other gears and cards to your liking. My recommendation list is just a reference for you to start with.

Type A1: Basic NPC Farming Arrow Storm Build (Basic Farming)

Headgear Top: Samambaia [1] (Damage, Aspd) <@go 16: Deluxe Hats NPC>

Headgear Mid: Samambaia [1] (Damage, Aspd) <@go 16: Deluxe Hats NPC>

Headgear Low: Chewing Gum (Damage) <@go 16 Deluxe Hats NPC>

Armour:  Odin’s Blessing [0] <Accuracy and Speed Set Novice Training Academy>

Left Hand: Hunter Bow [0] <Weapons NPC Vend Harbour - @go 16>

Right Hand: Hunter Bow [0] <Weapons NPC Vend Harbour - @go 16>

Ammunition: Hunter Arrow <Ammunitions NPC Vend Harbour - @go 16>

Footgear: Shoes [0] <Armors NPC Vend Harbour - @go 16>

Accessory 1: Renown Archer’s Glove [0] <Accuracy and Speed Set Novice Training Academy>

Accessory 2: School Backpack [1] (Novice Academy)

[Zohan’s Special Tip!]: To level up fast try joining Infinite Space Instance (Level 100+) Party Runs (join in my Zohan’s IS Levelling Party, I usually do levelling instance runs to help other players level up their chars).

Even with basic NPC Gears you can start farming Mavkas to get more zeny. Use this @command to autoloot the good stuffs in Moscovia Dungeon Level 3, just mount your warg using Warg Rider Skill and whenever you see a Mavka monster cast the Warg Strike Skill to it. Recover your HP and SP by consuming the HP and SP items from your Cons inventory tab. Always buff yourself with the Archer Class Supportive Skills  Improve Concentration and Wind Walk.

To reach Moscovia dungeon 3 talk to Warper Babe NPC and select Warp>Dungeons>Moscovia>Moscovia Dungeon 3

 Moscovia Farming @alootid:           @alootid 510, 519, 539, 579, 580, 747, 748

[Zohan’s Special Tips!]: I would suggest that you go with the AS Type for Farming, as it is the most efficient way

to kill a group of monsters at once with high damage output than picking them up one by one, well except for Mavka farming where you use Warg Strike to kill Mavka monsters instantly.

Type A2: Intermediate Farming Arrow Storm Build (Farming, Low-level MVPs)

Equipment/Gear and Cards List: Auto-Warg Crit Ranger Build

I’ll just be listing items which I in my opinion you could just concentrate on. There are a lot of possible gears that can be equipped by a Ranger, to make it simple I’ll just list the important ones (based on my opinion). As you progress you can follow my recommendations or should there be new gears that would be introduced and you feel that they would be better then that’s also ok, you can send me pm and suggest it accordingly so I may include it on this guide. Higher Tier number indicates a better option with Tier 3 being the best option to consider.

 [Zohan’sSpecial Tips!]

To reach max aspd and damage you may use a combination of consumable items: (Atk, Aspd, and Stat boosting consumables)

  • Awakening Potion
  • Celermaine Juice
  • Guarana Candy
  • +20 Foods
  • +10 Foods
  • Marhaval Potion (Cash Shop Item)
  • Valhalla Potion

Right now you can also go with the Donation Speed Level 3 Gemstone (Aspd+1), this is an awesome gemstone to get because of its versatility. This gemstone can save a lot of AGI Stat points that you can redistribute to other stats that can boost damage, however if you really want the max damage output then Destruction Level 3 Gemstone +  Almighty Level 3 Gemstone would be the best combo option – this is if you can reach max aspd with foods and potions, etc.

To get additional boost on your DPS and overall Attack Power: (Atk boost consumables)

  • Box of Resentment
  • Aloevera
  • Distilled Fighting Spirit

It’s always nice to have a HP Leech (Hunter Fly or Sniper Cecil MVP Card) and a SP Leech Bow (Dracula Card) they do come handy. A cheap alternative is to have a Thanatos Bow [1] and Rideword Hat [1] combo just in case you would need to leech HP and SP to continue on your quests. Well if you have an RJ Bank or SP Pots then that could also work.

A Golden Thief Bug MVP and Medusa Carded Shield is also a must, best to use a Valkyrie Shield [1] for it gives additional damage reduction from element type damage that would come in handy going up against MVPs. Have a spare White Wing Suit with a Marc Card to protect you from being frozen.

Shadow Gears:

Scatter Shadow Gear Set – each gear gives +5 Stat (gear specific), all must be complete to get the effects.

@Zohan (or anyone with an opinion) ....

1- why such high luck stat if pure AS build? isn't that high more for hybrid, or something I'm unclear on?

2- can explain plz purpose of str stat on any ranger? (doesn't @storage + 10 gym passes make kinda unneeded?)

thankies for any opinions/replies

Hi! What path of stats should i take as a hunter?

Just raise the usual. Dex for damage and agi for aspd. You won't be a hunter more than half an hour anyway. With the right leveling method you could become ranger in an hour or so. Pre-3rd class builds/stats are normally skipped entirely.

Hi,

Thanks so much for creating the guide.  Very very useful.  I am looking at the Intermediate Setup part, particularly for hunting/farming purposes.

I have some questions, some of which are a bit noobish sorry.  But I hope you guys won't mind me asking:

1.  Autumn Headband.  We can only do this quest once, right?  How do people get around with +7/+9 Autum Headband when there's a chance of breaking?  I tried upgrading mine, and it broke at +5. :D
1.a.  How do I get this? Essence of Evil STR Level 3.  It's the first time that I saw it.  Also, can an Autumn Headband contain both Essence of Evil and a Card?

2.  +7 Great Big Crossbow [2].  ex: EA1 EA2 {Expert Archer, Sharp, and or Crit Enchants}
Same question with #1.  I guess people really do risk a lot by enchanting those stuff and then upgrading it after.  How much do these cost nowadays (those +7 with enchanted ones?)

3.  I'm about to Google this one but I might as well ask:  How do I get those Shadow Armors?

----

On a personal note, I find hunting with Rangers really superb.  The only thing that does not make it enjoyable is that:
a.  I die, a lot.  And so whenever I farm, I had to return to Asgard every 3-5mins or so just to get the full HP/Buffs again.
b.  The ArrowStorm cooldown is too long.  Was there a change in the cooldown within the past few months, or was my hiatus just long?

Last time I played, I was farming Stones in Thanatos tower while occassionally doing Bifrost quests (e.g. Wandering Dragon) to earn Zeny.  Anything more than that is a lot harder (I die a lot).
Now that I am back, I want to take it up a notch and try to do harder solo-able instances.  And so I went to this thread to try building up my gears first.

Thank you! :)

------

Addition:

Just to give you guys more idea on my current status:  I started playing a Doram, and it was fun.  I tried hunting for his gears (the elegant ones, aka those which drop in Lasagna Dungeon 3).  My hunter is having really a hard time dealing damage and taking hits in there, and coupled with a low drop rate, I don't find it enjoyable.

1. Autumn headband. There is a small guy beside the hat maker in Asgard who can reset your autumn headband quest for an enchant book. So you can do it twice per character. People just remake characters to make more autumn headbands though.

1.a. essence of evil (EOE) str is obtained from temple of demon god instance. There are a few prerequisite quests before it though, starting from flame basin. EOE acts like a card so you can only have either a card or EOE in your headgear. You can find the EOE for around 60m on the market.

2. Yes you can do the normal enchants which is a risk or you can use VIP coins to have  100% success rate enchant and whatever enchant you want at the godly enchanter in Asgard. Although this is very expensive and generally used for very very very high refined gears.

3. Shadow armor is exchangeable with battleground badges. Join the battlegrounds with @joinbg A/B/C and collect badges to exchange for shadow gear.

For farming. Try to get a hunter fly carded bow for lifesteal. Or get a rideword hat for hp and sp leech.

I see!  Thank you very much.

1.  I backread a bit and there was a post about making lots of rangers to farm Mora Coins.  Maybe this is possible for Autumn Headband.  After all, it's not that hard to level to 100 anymore.

1.a.  Thank you for the info.  I'll research a bit more.

2.  Thanks.  The VIP Coin to have 100% Success Rate at Godly Enchanter is something new to me.  I'll look into that.

3.  Thanks!

Thanks for the help :)

Shard and Gemstone are from when you enchant them, you will be able to choose whichever you want(like tool dealer list).

Star Stone are from cash shop from Star Stone box.

Hi. Just a question regarding the Big Crossbow. I've always used a +6 Elven Bow + Arrows but just recently bought a +8 Big Crossbow. I was Arrow Storming at around 70k damage before then I tried the Big Crossbow. But my AS damage is still the same. What gives??

Were you using Elven Arrows with your Elven Bow before? If you use both, then there's a +50% ranged damage bonus. Using a gxbow at below +8 with any arrows is on par with a +8 Elven Bow+Elven Arrows when it comes to Arrow Storm damage.

OH. Yes I was using Elven Bow + Elven Arrow combo. It did not occur to me that the 50% ranged bonus also applies to AS, and that the 70k damage I was doing was my base damage.

And I thought I'd start doing 90k AS damage with the gxbow 😭

Thanks a lot!! Now I understand!
